05.15.22

Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of May 16, 2022.

Thanks to all the Herndon students that participated in ArtBreak this past weekend. Herndon is truly blessed with some awesome, talented students.

Thanks to everyone who contributed and/or volunteered during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. It was a wonderful week for Herndon Faculty and Staff.

Herndon is having a Recycled Book Sale tomorrow and Tuesday. All books will be available at $10 or less. This is a great chance to pick up books to read this summer. Thank you in advance for supporting this HMS Library fundraiser.

Speaking of reading books, Herndon had a school-wide goal of reading 90 million AR words this year. If the goal was met, I agreed to kiss a pig. The students far exceeded the goal with almost 200 million AR words read. If you would like to see the video of me kissing the pig, go to herndonmagnet.caddoschools.org. Activities & Events this Week: Recycled Book Sale, 2nd Grade to Safety Town, NJHS Induction, 5th Grade DARE Graduation, K-2 Field Day, 3-5 Field Day, and MS AAGD.

Activities & Events next Week: EOY Pep Rally, MS Awards Banquet, Popsicle & Hats Day, Kindergarten Commencement, 8th Grade Commencement, and Last Day Slide Show.

Students from other schools are not allowed at any of Herndon’s end-of-the-year events unless they are with an approved volunteer group. Herndon students cannot be checked out to attend end-of-the-year events that their siblings are involved in, which include kindergarten commencement and/or eighth-grade commencement. Please try to limit your student’s commencement guests to four.

Students may wear athletic shorts with pockets for Field Days and AAGD. Please make sure shorts are no more than 4 inches above the knees. Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and towels are also allowed on the day of your student’s event. ALL tickets and wristbands must be purchased on locallevelevents.com.

Herndon will be taking attendance through the last day of school, which is Thursday, May 26.

Please send a water bottle or a clear thermos with your student each day. Students can refill their bottles during the day.

We are now using Herndon’s new website at https://herndonmagnet.caddoschools.org.

Please check the Herndon website and Facebook page for additional information about upcoming activities and events at Herndon.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening!   ID# 933431
