05.22.22

Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of May 23, 2022.

Tomorrow, students may wear hats, and they will also be receiving a popsicle. The hat day and popsicle are rewards for meeting goals for the PTSA Boosterthon.

Students who purchased a yearbook will receive it tomorrow. The yearbook/newspaper staff, under the direction of Mrs. Katie Barr, put together an awesome yearbook. Any current 6th or 7th grader interested in taking the yearbook/newspaper class, must fill out an application. Applications are available on the Herndon website.

The EOY Pep Rally for grades 3-8 is tomorrow at 8:30 am. All students must be seated before we can allow any parents in the gym.

Kindergarten commencement will be held in the auditorium on Tuesday, May 24, at 8:30 am.

8th grade commencement will be held Wednesday, May 25, at 10 am in the Herndon gymnasium.

Students from other schools are not allowed at any of Herndon’s end of the year events. Herndon students cannot be checked out to attend end of the year events that their siblings are involved in at Herndon, which includes kindergarten commencement and/or eighth grade commencement. Please try to limit your student’s commencement guests to four.

The coaches need all jerseys, shirts, and uniform parts that are still out to be turned in tomorrow for basketball, dance, football, soccer, tennis, and track. Any items not returned must be paid for by Thursday, May 26, or report cards will be held.

All library books must be turned in or paid for by Wednesday, May 25, or report cards will be held.

All temporary IDs must be paid for by Tuesday, May 24. Middle school students must wear their permanent ID each day this week.

On Wednesday and Thursday, May 25 & 26, students do not bring backpacks.

Thursday, May 26, is the last day of school. Students may wear street clothes that meet CPSB dress code policy.

Please send a water bottle or a clear thermos with your student each day. Students can refill their bottles during the day.

Please help us spread the word that late testing for Herndon will happen in June, but applications must be submitted by June 9.

There are changes in the 2022-2023 Herndon Uniform Policy. The policy will be posted on the Herndon website soon. Please review it carefully before you purchase uniforms.

We are now using Herndon’s new website at https://herndonmagnet.caddoschools.org.

Since this is my last official JCall for the 2021-2022 school year, I want to say what a pleasure it is serving as the principal of Herndon Magnet School. Truly, we have the best students, parents/guardians, and faculty/staff in Caddo Parish. I hope that you have a safe and happy summer break, and that the 8th graders leaving Herndon will have an awesome high school experience.

Thank you and have a wonderful evening!   ID# 986659
