Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of September 25, 2023.

 

• I want to thank everyone who helped make last week a great Homecoming Week at Herndon. 
• Congratulations to 6th graders Laila Parson, Evelyn Ward, Tristen Pierce, G’Liyah Davenport, Farren Festavan, and 8th graders Maggie Chiles, Sawyer Lummus, and Kylie Wier for making the Louisiana American Choral Directors Association All-State Honor Choir. These students will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, October 26-28, 2023 and sing with students from around the State of Louisiana. A special thanks and congratulations to Herndon’s Choir Director, Ms. Arnese Brass. 
• The Lady Hawks softball team will play Northside at 6:30 PM tomorrow, September 25, at Northwood High School. They will play again on Thursday, September 28, at North Caddo High School against North Caddo Middle School at 5:30 PMThe price of admission is $5.00, and All tickets must be purchased at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/.
• Tryouts for the Hawk Baseball Teams, teams that are associated with, butindependent from Herndon, will be held tomorrow at 6:00 PM at the Blanchard Athletic Club.
• Kindergarten will celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day on Tuesday, September 26.
• The Hawks Football team will be in action against CMM on Tuesday, September 26. This game will be played at C.E. Byrd High School’s practice field. The cost of admission is $6.00, and all tickets must be purchased at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/.
• The school-wide HMS PTSA Little Caesars Pizza Kits fundraiser is in full swing. I hope that everyone will participate in this fundraiser, which ends Wednesday, September 27. The PTSA does so much for the students and the faculty/staff at Herndon that I cannot list it all in this JCall. If you have not done so already, please join the HMS PTSA. Also, if you are looking for a way to become more involved and make new friends, there are lots of opportunities with the HMS PTSA. A special thanks to thevolunteers who worked Hawk Treat this past Friday.
• The Herndon Cross Country Team will have their first meet this Saturday, September 30, in the Byrd Invitational at South Bossier Park. The cost of admission is $5.00 per car, and this is cash only.
• If your 5th-8th grade student plans on playing any sport at Herndon, they must have a LHSAA physical. Students needing a physical form may pick one up in the school office.
• A-Wing students need to keep a change of clothes in their backpack for “just in case” accidents and/or emergencies.
• The 2023-2024 Herndon Highstepper Spirit shirt is on sale now at www.locallevelevents.com. This shirt, along with PTSA spirit wear, may be worn any day of the week. Please make sure your student is not wearing homemade or other Herndon created tops Monday through Thursday because these are not official tops. They may wear these on Fridays, as long as they meet CPSB Dress Code Policy.
• There will be a 5K and Fun Run in Downtown Oil City on October 21, 2023 at 8:30 AM. This event is open to everyone, and it is sponsored by one of Herndon’s Community Partners, Fresh Oil Worship Center. 
• There are just two weeks left in this first nine weeks of school. Please encourage your child to finish strong with their academics, attendance, behavior, and with all extracurricular activities.
