Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of October 30, 2023.

 

• Once again, I want to congratulate Herndon’s 5th and 8th grade “Student of the Year” finalists. For 5th grade, they are: Jake Hobbs, Lillian Janz, Aubrey Johnson, Paisley Johnson, and Gadin Wall.

For 8th grade, they are: Carleigh Chadwick, Maggie Chiles, Savannah Hebert, Sawyer Lummus, Ava McLendon, and Melanie Posey.  The 2023-2024 Herndon Magnet Students of the Year are Gadin Wall and Melanie Posey. Congratulations Gadin and Melanie! They will represent Herndon at the district level.

• I want to congratulate Herndon’s 2023-2024 Teachers of the Year. Herndon’s elementary “Teacher of the Year” is 5th grade ELA teacher, Mr. Kane O’Neal, and Herndon’s middle “Teacher of the Year” is 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher, Mr. Patrick Murphy. These gentlemen will represent Herndon at the district level.
• 8th graders who turned in their permission slip on time will travel to The Strand tomorrow to watch several plays. They must wear their Sunday best that follows CPSB Dress Code Policy. Girls’ skirts and/or dresses must not be more than four inches above the knees all the way around. No shorts are allowed for this field trip.
• The Lady Hawks softball team will play Northside tomorrow, October 30,at Northwood. The game will start at 5:30 PMand all tickets must be purchased at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/. The Lady Hawks will play a tie breaker game with Walnut Hill at Southwood on Wednesday, November 1, at 5:30 PM. Hopefully, we will receive the make-up schedule for the Turner game and the new play-off schedule tomorrow. 
• The Highsteppers Dance Clinic for grades 3-5 will be held afterschool tomorrow, October 30, and the clinic for grades K-2 will be held afterschool on Wednesday, November 1. These clinics are for girls who registered, and they will perform on Family Fun Night.
• On Tuesday, October 31, students who purchased the PTSA Dress-UpPackage or purchased just the October 31st day may wear a Halloween/Fall Sports Top and Jeans. All purchases must be made on Local Level. Students who did not pay on Local Level must wear their school uniforms.
• Family Fun Night is Thursday, November 2, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. The middle school band and the PTSA are still in need of donations and gifts for Bingo. 
• 4th – 6th grade 4-H members who turn in their permission slip on time will travel to the State Fair of Louisiana on Friday, November 3, to visit exhibits.
• The Hawks Football team has ended their season with a 4-1 record. I want to thank the coaches, Willie Walker, John Corbell, and Cody Young, for their hard work and dedication with these young men. 
• Information about registering for Grandparents Days at Herndon on November 8 and 9 went home last week. Please make sure you read the information and instructions very carefully.
• Herndon Yearbooks are on sale now at www.locallevelevents.com. This is an early bird special for $50 with free personalization. The early bird special ends November 17, 2023.
• Elementary and Middle Magnet Applications are now available on the CPSB website until January 5, 2024. You can also find information on Herndon’s website on the “Home” page. Testing will be in January and February. Please help us spread the word about HERNDON MAGNET SCHOOL.
