Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of March 18, 2024.
• I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Spring Break. We look forward to seeing all students back tomorrow as we start the fourth nine weeks.
• Middle school students need their clean PE uniform and their permanent student ID tomorrow.
• This last nine weeks will be full of activities and events. One of the events that means so much to the school and the faculty and staff is LEAP testing. The dates for LEAP testing for grades 3-8 are April 17-19 and April 22-23. We need everyone here each day of testing. The students and teachers have worked diligently, and we believe that everyone’s hard work will once again result in Herndon having a “School Performance Score” of an A. We also believe that we will again be named a Louisiana Top Gains School, a Caddo Gains School, and an Opportunity Honoree. We know that none of this would be possible without your support, and I could never say thank you enough.
• 2024-2025 magnet contracts for current K-7th grade students will come home soon. Please remember that contracts are not valid until a final evaluation of each student’s academics, attendance, behavior, and participation in all required testing are reviewed at the end of the 23-24 school year.
• Tomorrow is a PTSA Dress-Up Day for those who bought the package or paid for just tomorrow on Local Level. Students may wear a St. Patrick’s Day or Spring Top with Jeans. All clothes must meet Caddo Parish Dress Code Policy.
• Congratulations to Herndon and Caddo 4-H members, Ryleigh Bynum and Kenzie Primm, for participating in the Southern University Livestock Show in Baton Rouge last month
• Congratulations to Mrs. Victoria Lacy and the following students who were selected to represent Herndon Magnet at the 2024 Louisiana Bandmasters Association All-Star Honor Band. The students are: Paige Dykes, Savannah Hebert, Devon Johnson, and Landon Rice. They will travel to Lafayette in June to perform with the top students across the state of Louisiana.
• We will be taking a yearbook picture of the following groups and/or teamstomorrow: 5th- 6th grade Hawks baseball team, 7th and 8th grade baseball who combined with Donnie Bickham, tennis, football, golf, 8th grade students who have been at Herndon since kindergarten, track, film club, 6th grade honor band, percussion, state honor band, elementary honor choir, and students who scored all advanced on last year’s LEAP. If you have a t-shirt or a jersey at home, please bring it tomorrow.
• The Lady Hawks Soccer Team will play Evangel at Evangel on Tuesday, March 19 and Southfield on Wednesday, March 20 at Northwood. Both games will start at 6:00 PM.
• There will be after school tutoring Tuesday – Friday this week for students who are registered.
• There will be a 4-H meeting for fourth and fifth grade members on Tuesday, March 19.
• Tuesday, March 19, is a PRIME TIME night from 5:30-7:00 PM for those who are registered.
• On Thursday, March 21, Miles for Smiles will be servicing Herndon students.
• On Friday, March 22, the PTSA will be hosting Hawk Treats.
• Third nine weeks report cards will be sent home on Friday, March 22. Contract warning notices for the third nine weeks will be sent home the week of March 25.
• Plans are being made for parents/guardians to watch the eclipse at Herndon with your child on April 8, 2024. Details for this event will be coming home soon.
• Save the dates: North Caddo Magnet High School will have its open house for 8th graders on Tuesday, April 2. Eclipse event at Herndon on April 8. 4-H Livestock Clinic on Saturday, April 27.
